Our Proud Heritage
Although not exclusively worn by the Métis, the sash has become a cornerstone
of Métis identity. Sashes are worn by Métis of all ages and by
both genders – a departure from historical tradition when only men wore
them. This section honours the proud heritage of Métis Elders and veterans.
This section contains the bulk of the Virtual Museum’s Oral History collection
and contains the vast majority of historical photographs donated to the Institute
by the Métis community. It also contains all print information relating
to Métis resistance and communities.
