Olive was interviewed on March 11, 1984 in Duck Lake, Saskatchewan. Olive shares a short story of when her grandfather came over from Scotland and started his life here. Her father took over the farm when his father passed away and carried the traditions of his mother. Olive discusses the home she grew up in with her eleven siblings and the chores that they had. Olive discusses her father’s involvement and later on in life her involvement in the Métis Society. She also talks about the community involvement in dances and music when she was growing up. Later on in life she got married and had seven children and she discusses her family’s life. Olive discusses in detail the role that religion and the church played in her family when she was growing up and the influences from different sides of the family. She also discusses traditional crafts, housing, medicine and how people came together to help one another out. |
