Title: Minutes of Evidence, Select Committee of the Hudson's Bay Company (06)
Creator: Parliament of the United Kingdom
Subject: Hudson’s Bay Company, HBC, Rupert’s Land, United Kingdom Parliament, Inquiry, 1857
Description: This document, a British parliamentary select committee investigation from 1857, discusses the possibility of the Province of Canada acquiring in whole or in part the Hudson's Bay Company-claimed territory known as Rupert's Land. The British parliamentarians also showed concern for he region's Indigenous residents, but deferred to the paternalism of HBC officials who merely seemed to think of Rupert`s Land's Aboriginal residents as a potential labour force rather than people with autonomy.
