Description: This series of photographs was taken by Dennis Fisher in August 1977 and focuses on the visit of the former Prime Minister of Canada, the Right Honourable John G. Diefenbaker and MP Ray Hnatyshyn (later the Governor General) to an archaeological dig at Batoche. The following were the main people present in the photographs: John Diefenbaker (grey suit with white hanky, shirt and tie), Ray Hnatyshyn (light grey jacket, blue shirt), Paul F. Donahue, archaeologist (pink shirt, black pants), Valerie J. Hall, archaeologist (dark hair, blue zippered jacket), Mable Simpson, Parks Canada employee (blue slacks, checked jacket), Terry ?, Parks Canada archaeologist (beard, checked shirt), Wild Weber and Gary Von Kuster (newsmen and TV photographer) and and Edward Bruce, Parks Canada, Batoche Custodian (brown suit). This collection contains archaeological artifacts taken from the battlefields of the 1885 Resistance as well as Fort Pitt (Saskatchewan), Cumberland House (Saskatchewan) and St. Peter’s Mission, Montana. The collection also includes various artifacts and ephemera relating to the 1885 Resistance and Gabriel Dumont.
