| Description: | In November 2004, the Gabriel Dumont Institute (GDI) and the University of Saskatchewan Native Studies Department (NSD)—led by Cheryl Troupe and Brenda Macdougall—brought together specialists in Aboriginal oral traditions from across Canada. This symposium took place over three days and was held at the University of Saskatchewan. The following individuals took part in this discussion: Ida Moore (Cree, Saskatchewan), Jackie Walker (Cree, Manitoba), John Murdoch (Cree, Quebec), Dick Preston (Non-Aboriginal), Keith Carlson (Non-Aboriginal), Albert (Sonny) McHalsie (Sto:lo), Winona Wheeler (Cree), Maria Campbell (Métis), and Roger Maaka (Maori). The group discussed the use of Aboriginal oral traditions in their work and in the preservation of the cultures that they live in/work with. They also discussed protocols when using Aboriginal oral history.
