In the spirit of Reconciliation, the Fanshawe Pioneer Village (London & Middlesex Heritage Museum) in London, Ontario patriated muzzle-loading long rifle that was taken by members of the North-West Field Force during the Battle of Batoche in May 1885 to the Gabriel Dumont Institute in October 2023. The weapon in question is a Hollis & Sons Hudson’s Bay Company Indian Trade Fusil, which was used by a Métis Resistance fighter at Batoche. The trade fusil now rests in the GDI Museum and Gallery beside other Métis and North-West Field Force weapons used during the 1885 Resistance. |
